Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations show the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the incident made him stunned and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
